Program Structure

First Step

The objective of the beginning level is to establish basic elements of dance, inspire creativity, enhance self-esteem and focus, increase overall body strength, and nurture a love of movement. Activities that build awareness of personal space, orientation to the mirror and barre, and understanding directionality are part of each class. This foundational training also incorporates language development—learning dance-related vocabulary and following simple to more complex instructions.

In addition, the introduction to dance emphasizes appropriate behavior and social skills for a structured studio setting. Expectations for participation are clearly established and consistently reinforced.

Step Up

As Company d dancers advance, they sign an annual agreement to attend a minimum of two, two-hour classes weekly and designated rehearsals. This agreement is reviewed with the dancers to ensure understanding, and parents are encouraged to sign after discussing it with their dancer. A standardized dance form is also provided for dancers, parents, teachers, and guest artists to reference.

Each year, Company d dancers participate in a two-week summer intensive workshop. During this time, they work with guest artists in visual arts, theater, dance, and yoga, broadening their creative and technical skills.
